Life in the North Metro
From the Halloween Capital to the USA Cup. From snowy trails to summer splash pads. Here is how we live, play, and celebrate in Anoka, Blaine, and Coon Rapids.
The Dad’s Guide to Parks
As a father of two, I judge parks on three things: Safety, Equipment Quality, and “Bench Comfort” for the parents. Here are my top picks.
Rockslide Park
Coon Rapids
A hidden gem. Great elevation changes for running kids, solid playground equipment, and it’s the park my family personally cleans up!
Lakeside Commons
Blaine
The “Beach of Blaine.” Rent a canoe, hit the splash pad, or play volleyball. It gets busy, but the amenities are world-class.
Peninsula Point
Anoka
Where the Rum meets the Mississippi. Fantastic walking trails and historic markers. Less play equipment, more scenery.
We Don’t Hide Inside.
In the North Metro, we celebrate every season. Yes, even the cold ones. Especially the spooky ones.
The Best Holiday. Period.
We take Halloween seriously here. Anoka is the official “Halloween Capital of the World.” Three parades, house decorating contests, and a month-long party. It’s my favorite time of year.

We don’t just survive winter; we thrive in it. From the Coon Rapids Ice Center to the sledding hills at Wintercrest, we embrace the snow. My advice? Good boots and a better attitude.

Skipping the chains for local favorites.
Invictus Brewing
Blaine
Located right next to the NSC. Great patio and local brews.
Serum’s
Anoka
The best wings in the north metro. Historic, divey (in a good way), and fun.
Kendall’s Tavern
Coon Rapids
Upscale casual at Bunker Hills Golf Club. Perfect for date night.
Avant Garden
Anoka
The coolest coffee shop on Main St. Great for reading or meeting clients.
